“Discovery” continues Calum Baird’s instinct for writing through place—using geography as a way of understanding what surfaces and what lingers.

The song was written quickly, almost in response to a moment. Following the release of Calum’s single, Meet Me in Jena, a remark on air from Jim Gellatly—drawing a line between Jena and Dundee—sparked the idea, and within minutes the core of “Discovery”—its lyrics and acoustic foundation—had taken shape.

Built on a warm, driving acoustic guitar, the song moves through pubs, coastlines and train stations, tracking how memory attaches itself to the physical world. Not in a sentimental way, but in a way that’s difficult to shake. The more you move, the more fixed certain points begin to feel.

The arrangement follows that same sense of movement and accumulation. Electric guitar lines drift in and out around the edges—first in the opening, then returning between sections—while the second chorus subtly expands with added texture. In the first and final chorus, the line “Now you’re a stained-glass window, a light upon my wall” is held up by understated swells of cello, a piano and bass, adding weight without breaking the song’s restraint. It closes on an unresolved mandolin note that rings out, mirroring the song’s refusal to tie things off cleanly.

There are echoes here of the directness and rhythmic drive associated with musicians like Billy Bragg, alongside a more traditional, narrative-led folk approach. In its use of everyday spaces as a vehicle for something more reflective, the song also sits loosely in the lineage of Dundee songwriter Michael Marra.

All of the instrumentation, along with the artwork, is handled by Calum himself, giving the track a sense of cohesion that matches its subject matter—everything held within the same frame, nothing handed off.

Running through it is a quiet sense of elevation. The central image of the ship Discovery grounds the song in something historical and preserved, while the everyday world is drawn into something much more personal. In this space, the mundane takes on a disproportionate, sacred weight.

There’s no real attempt here to resolve anything neatly. Instead, the song sits in that space where reflection turns into recognition: that time passing doesn’t necessarily mean things disappear. Some experiences don’t fade or simplify—they just settle deeper, becoming part of how you see everything else.

The stained-glass window sits quietly at the centre of it all.

Like much of Calum’s writing, there’s movement all the way through the song—but not everything moves on.

“Discovery” is about what stays put, whether you want it to or not.

Short Description

“Discovery” is an acoustic indie-folk track about how memory becomes tied to place. Moving through pubs, coastlines and passing moments, it explores how the everyday can take on a disproportionate weight—where certain spaces start to feel fixed, and certain things don’t fade, but settle into how you see the world.

Spotify Pitch

Warm, driving acoustic indie-folk with subtle electric textures, piano, bass and cello swells. “Discovery” explores how memory becomes tied to place—turning everyday spaces into something lasting. Building gently before closing on an unresolved mandolin line, it sits between reflective and anthemic, with a lyrical focus on what surfaces, what lingers, and what doesn’t move on.

New 2026–27 London season announced: Diverse programming and new concert formats that recognise and celebrate the changing face of the concert audience in 2026

“For the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, turning 80 is both a celebration and a milestone as we look ahead to the next chapter. After eight decades, it’s safe to say that the Orchestra feels younger and fresher than ever. But it also has many stories to tell, and this 80th Anniversary Season places a waymarker on our journey of discovery, giving us the opportunity to share those stories anew, together. It’s a season full of reflections, remembrances and evocations: music that celebrates music, and the musicians who make it. And above all, music that celebrates our audience – the people who make the music complete.”

(Vasily Petrenko, Music Director at the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra)

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) today announces its London season for 2026–27, celebrating 80-years of music-making in the capital. Between September 2026 and June 2027, the RPO will perform 33 London concerts across three venues, with programming designed to appeal to young audiences and the launch of a new concert format that will particularly welcome people attending an orchestral concert for the first time.

The new season announcement comes ahead of the RPO’s annual audience trends report, which reveals how significantly the UK orchestral audience is changing. Nationally, 46% of orchestral music’s audience describe themselves as new to the genre or starting journeys of discovery. This compares to 38% of the audience who say they have enjoyed classical music for many years – and 12% who are about to experience an orchestral concert for the first time this year. There is also a significant revival of interest in orchestral music among young people, with under 25s being the age group most likely to be starting journeys of discovery (55%).

Vasily Petrenko, Music Director, will lead the RPO for a season of concerts that both celebrate the past and look forward with optimism. The RPO’s Composer-in-Association, Joe Hisaishi, will conduct an evening of his own music, including the UK premiere of his Concerto for Orchestra. The RPO will also welcome Adam Hickox as Conductor-in-Residence and Liya Petrova as Artist-in-Residence for the 2026–27 Season at their resident home, Cadogan Hall.

The new, wide-ranging RPO season is responsive to the preferences of today’s concert goers in and around London, with the different venues championing different types of concerts that appeal to contrasting audience profiles.

Must see symphonic benchmarks at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall

With one in four London concertgoers (26%) expressing interest in concerts featuring core classical repertoire, the RPO will celebrate its landmark 80th anniversary year by performing a series of ‘must see’ concerts of large scale core symphonic repertoire. These include; Stravinsky’s The Firebird, Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances and the complete ballet score of Daphnis et Chloé by Ravel.

The stories behind great music at Cadogan Hall:

With 29% of people new to the orchestral genre saying they like to research a piece of music before attending a concert, the RPO will launch a brand-new ‘Revealed’ format of concerts at Cadogan Hall. Multi-award-winning writer and historian Leah Broad will unwrap music by Tchaikovsky and Mozart in conversation with the conductor and RPO musicians, followed by a complete performance of each symphony. This informal and engaging programme of concerts aims to encourage people new to classical music to have a welcoming first experience in the concert hall and to help them get under the skin of the music and its cultural context. It will also appeal to afficionados who want to deepen their knowledge. Vasily Petrenko will be revealing Mozart’s ‘Jupiter’ Symphony whilst Adam Hickox’s concert will open the world of Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony.

Concerts for all the family at the Royal Albert Hall

With family-orientated concerts popular among younger adults in their 20s and 30s (32%), the Royal Albert Hall will blend major symphonic performances with more accessible, family-friendly concerts. The Moonwalkers in Concert will be a highlight for the autumn, a concert that presents the stories of the Apollo moon missions in high definition, narrated by Tom Hanks on a film created by Lightroom. Other concerts for the season include an evening of soul and Motown reimagined for symphony orchestra, the very best tunes from Broadway and the West End, themes from Sci-Fi films and a concert for gaming enthusiasts. For Christmas season, the RPO will once again present Sir John Rutter’s Christmas Celebration.

Sarah Bardwell, Managing Director at the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra comments: “From film and video game music, Broadway and soul classics, Joe Hisaishi conducting live, The Moonwalkers narrated by Tom Hanks, to our new hour-long ‘Revealed’ concerts at Cadogan Hall, and a host of orchestral masterpieces at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall – there’s something for all musical tastes for our new season. In the weeks ahead we will be announcing our UK season for venues outside London as well as international tours, but today is all about London. For the last 80 years, we have been proud to be based in one of the world’s most creatively rich and diverse cities and our new London season is a ‘thank you’ to all those that have kept music alive over the last 80 years by attending our concerts, whilst also being a celebration of what orchestral music is today. From the classic to the modern, the serious to the fun – our new season is all about giving concert-goers a great night out: And in today’s troubled world, that’s probably more important than ever.”

The RPO’s new annual audience report, explored the enriching role that live music plays in people’s everyday lives in the capital. Across London, 89% of adults said they liked to go to a music concert when they could, with 45% saying they had access live music venues within 30- minutes of travel from their home. Furthermore, 80% of Londoners rated as ‘good’ the diversity of music styles that could be celebrated and enjoyed in the city and 72% appreciated London being a city that is visited regularly by world-class orchestras and famous soloists. In addition, 77% of people felt London was well served with great music venues, three of which the RPO is delighted to partner with for its 2026–27 season.

Full details of the new concert season for 2026–27 goes live on the new RPO website from 10am on Tuesday 21 April 2026.

UK alternative rock band Littlemen, based in Bath, are stepping into a powerful new chapter as they prepare to release new material alongside a striking live recording from the legendary Real World Studios—the iconic studio founded by Peter Gabriel—mixed at NAM Studios.

At the heart of Littlemen is frontman Nick, a musician whose career spans over four decades and touches nearly every corner of the music industry. From touring and artist management to running his own publication and studio, Nick’s journey is one of deep-rooted dedication to music. As the band’s lead singer and lyricist, he channels that experience into songs that feel both personal and universal.

His story is also one of resilience. At just 17, a motorcycle accident left him with a broken back and unable to walk. Rather than stepping away from music, Nick pushed forward—building a career defined not by limitation, but by persistence and creative drive.

Musically, Littlemen draw from a rich palette of influences, including Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Bruce Springsteen, Mumford & Sons, Simple Minds, Nick Cave, and Editors. The result is a sound that blends emotional depth with dynamic, modern rock textures.

The band features an accomplished lineup of musicians, including Grammy-winning drummer Robert Brian, whose credits include work with artists such as Siouxsie Sioux, Goldfrapp, and Miles Kane. His role as co-writer, arranger, and producer has been key in shaping the band’s evolving sound.

Since a lineup shift in 2022, Littlemen have moved beyond their earlier Americana roots into a more eclectic and contemporary direction. Their creative process is collaborative: Nick initiates ideas through lyrics and loops, keyboardist Mark Jones develops melodic structure, and Robert Brian brings the arrangements to life—resulting in a sound that is both cohesive and exploratory.

With multiple albums behind them and more on the horizon, including their upcoming sixth release, Littlemen continue to push boundaries while staying true to their identity. Their music is anchored in storytelling, driven by experience, and elevated by a fearless approach to genre.

As they prepare to unveil new recordings and future live performances, Littlemen stand as a testament to longevity, reinvention, and the enduring power of music.

Rising country and Americana artist Devan steps into the spotlight with the release of his debut single “Wyatt Earp”, arriving Friday 3rd April. Marking the beginning of a deeply personal musical journey, the track introduces a raw and authentic new voice rooted in storytelling, heritage, and heart.

Hailing from March in Cambridgeshire, Devan is a proud “Fen boy,” bringing a fresh perspective to the UK country scene. Raised in a hardworking and close-knit family with deep ties to the local area, his upbringing plays a central role in shaping both his sound and identity as an artist.

Remarkably, “Wyatt Earp” represents Devan’s first-ever songwriting and recording experience. Having never previously written or recorded music, the release signals a bold leap into the unknown—one driven purely by passion and lifelong love for singing.

“I’ve always loved music, but this is my first time truly stepping into it as my own,” says Devan. “It’s a new chapter, and I’m excited for everything that’s ahead.”

The single has already begun to gain traction, earning radio support including a feature on CountryLine Homegrown with Tim Prottey-Jones—a milestone moment for the artist, who describes hearing his music played on air surrounded by family as “a full circle experience.”

Outside of music, Devan balances life as a carpenter, working with Sovereign Quarter Horses in Cambridgeshire, while continuing to build his artistry. He has also performed at their Rockin’ the Country festival, where he plans to host his upcoming EP launch later this year.

Devan’s songwriting is grounded in real-life experiences, including the profound loss of his grandfather—his best friend and a key inspiration behind future material such as the upcoming track “Better Man.” His music reflects themes of resilience, family, identity, and respect—values that remain central to who he is.

A keen rugby player for March Bears RUFC, cold water swimmer, and lover of adventure, Devan embodies a spirit of authenticity that translates seamlessly into his artistry.

With a debut EP on the horizon, Devan is positioning himself as a compelling new talent in the UK country and Americana landscape—one with a story worth telling.

Artist: Joe Galuszka

Single: Requiem For Mum
Debut Album: Fractures
Release Date:

Bristol-based British-Polish composer Joe Galuszka releases Requiem for Mum, a deeply moving contemporary classical single that forms the emotional core of his forthcoming debut EP, Fractures. Written in memory of his late mother, the piece stands as both a personal tribute and a universal reflection on love, loss, and resilience.

Originally composed and performed at his mother’s funeral, Requiem for Mum has since evolved into a work that resonates far beyond its origins. Now recorded with The Bristol Ensemble — Bristol’s only professional orchestra — the track combines the intimacy of chamber music with the expansive emotional depth of a full orchestral sound. Known for their work with the BBC, Aardman Animations, and major film productions, the ensemble brings a profound sensitivity to the recording.

Opening with fragile textures and quiet restraint, the piece captures the stillness of grief. As it unfolds, intertwining motifs gradually build, guiding the listener through a subtle but powerful journey — from sorrow toward remembrance, connection, and moments of light. Rather than seeking closure, Requiem for Mum honours memory as something enduring and transformative.

Mixed by Alex Garden (Tarran) and mastered by Nick Cooke — whose credits include Ramin Djawadi, Kate Rusby, and Hans Zimmer — the track balances cinematic polish with raw emotional honesty. Accompanying visuals, directed by emerging filmmaker Giles Pitman, further enhance its reflective and atmospheric tone.

Speaking about the single, Galuszka says:

“This piece was written at one of the most difficult moments of my life. It began as something deeply personal, but I’ve come to realise it belongs to anyone who has lost someone they love. It’s about holding on to memory and finding strength in it.”

Requiem for Mum is a defining moment within Fractures, Galuszka’s debut EP — a contemporary classical and ambient project exploring themes of grief, healing, and personal transformation. Released as a series of singles across 2025–2026, the project traces a broader emotional narrative shaped by life experiences, including loss, resilience, and self-discovery.

Emerging from a working-class background and a non-traditional path into music, Galuszka has built a diverse career spanning orchestral composition, film scoring, and live performance. With Fractures, he establishes himself as a compelling new voice in contemporary composition — one rooted in storytelling, emotional depth, and authenticity.

“SUIT YOURSELF”

EXTRAORDINARY NEW ALBUM FROM VOCAL PROVOCATEUR

JUDITH OWEN

RELEASE APRIL 24TH 2026

Album features Judith’s band the Gentlemen Callers along with the JO Big Band and special guests Davell Crawford, Joe Bonamassa and the Tonya Boyd-Cannon Choir

New Orleans, Louisiana. Continuing on her critically-acclaimed journey into Jazz and Blues, “Suit Yourself,” the new album from lauded vocalist Judith Owen, resumes her trajectory of exploring and mining the lesser-known gems of these genres and turning them into musical powerhouses. Recorded at New Orleans’ Esplanade Studios, “Suit Yourself” is set for release April 24th via Twanky Records and will be accompanied by tour dates worldwide.

“Suit Yourself” can only be described as the full Judith Owen experience, celebrating all of her strengths and everything that has brought her joy throughout her last three releases. It combines the joyous swagger of her wildly successful “Come On and Get It”, the hi-octane sounds of her 2024 love letter to big band, “Judith Owen Swings Christmas”, the live power of “Comes Alive” and her own emotionally intoxicating songwriting and arrangements. A beautiful blend of jazz, blues and big band it may be, but above all it shows off her inimitable sound and personality that seamlessly unite all the tracks into one outstanding oeuvre.

Whether solo at the piano, accompanied by her jazz sextet or her contemporary big band, Judith’s rich mellifluous voice seduces, and her interpretations thrill on songs like Aretha Franklin’s “Evil Gal Blues”, Nellie Lutcher’s “For you my Love”, and Etta James’s “Since I Fell For You”. Of special note is her duet with New Orleans luminary Davell Crawford on “Today I Sing The Blues” as well as the first single, the sexy and sophisticated, “That’s Why I Love My Baby.” Maestro Joe Bonamassa adds blistering guitar on “Mind Is On Vacation” while the Tonya Boyd-Cannon Choir joins Judith to bring it all back home on the Gospel-inflected “Inside Out.”

The Gentlemen Callers are David Torkanowsky on Piano, Kevin Louis on Cornet/Trumpet, Ken Warshawsky on Double Bass, Grammy Award-winning Artist/Producer Jamison Ross on Drums, David Blenkhorn on guitar and Ricardo Pascal on Sax.

“Suit Yourself” was produced by Judith Owen with the track “Inside Out” being co-produced by Owen and Jamison Ross. The album was Mastered in New Orleans by Misha Kachkachishvili and Engineered by John Fiachbach, both of whom are Grammy Award winners.

In April, Yorkshire’s leading children’s cancer charity, Candlelighters, is joining a nationwide effort to mark Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Awareness Month. Alongside 21 other specialist charities, Candlelighters is spotlighting the unique emotional and physical hurdles faced by the 2,300 teenagers and young adults diagnosed with cancer in the UK every year.

For most teenagers, life is a whirlwind of milestones and new beginnings. However, a cancer diagnosis shifts that focus towards hospital stays, gruelling treatments, and significant life interruptions.

“While the assistance offered by Candlelighters is accessible to families of children aged 0-18, some of our services are particularly relevant to teenagers,” says Emily Wragg, CEO of Candlelighters. “These young people are already juggling the unique challenges of growing up when they are suddenly forced to face the huge impact of cancer treatment.”

Specialised support for unique challenges.

To combat the isolation that often accompanies long-term illness, Candlelighters employs a dedicated Youth Support Worker at Leeds Children’s Hospital. This role ensures that patients aged 13–19 can participate in engaging activities that bolster their mental wellbeing and allow them to connect with peers on the same journey.

The charity also offers specialist counselling, with professional support to help teenagers process complex feelings and develop coping strategies. Their family events provide opportunities to build friendships and create positive memories outside of a clinical setting. They also help with peer connection, reducing the isolation caused by being away from school, college, or university.

Addressing the hidden toll.

The impact of cancer extends far beyond the physical symptoms. Treatment often leads to hair loss, scarring, and weight fluctuations, which can devastate the self-esteem of a young person still forming their identity. And the disruption of education and social circles often leads to increased anxiety and depression.

“Cancer treatment can affect a teenager’s mental health, body image, and their future,” Emily Wragg explains. “Candlelighters is here to help them navigate these hurdles and ensure they don’t have to face them alone.”

Case study: Finlay’s story

In November 2024, 14-year-old Finlay visited the doctors three times about pain in his back, which eventually caused him to collapse. His mum requested a blood test and the shocking result was leukaemia.

One year on, and following several gruelling rounds of chemotherapy and pancreatitis (painful swelling of the pancreas), Finlay has moved onto maintenance treatment.

Finlay says: “Recently, I was told that my cancer had a high chance of coming back. From this, I was offered a clinical trial. Initially, I really didn’t want to do it because it involved seven more rounds of intense chemotherapy. This was something that me, my family, and the hospital team discussed for five weeks before I decided that I wanted to give the trial a go.

“I didn’t want my cancer to come back, so it was something I was hopeful for. The trial was hard. Three rounds in, I was admitted back into hospital as my bloods weren’t right, and I was neutropenic, meaning I had a high risk of dangerous infection. I had more tests, more scans and more treatment, but I got better, and I have now completed the trial.”

“In maintenance, I have been able to return to doing things that I did before my diagnosis – riding my bike, going out with my friends, and going to a few parties. Life is not the same as it was before, but I am beginning to enjoy doing ‘normal’ things again.

“Throughout all this, Candlelighters have been there for the good days and the bad. Candlelighters help me and my family get through the days of what feels like endless hospital appointments. They are always so positive and can make the days a little bit easier.

“Chelsey is my favourite. She is the Youth Support Worker. We have been able to have a laugh and a joke when I have been on the ward, and she has been able to handle my banter when I have been the cheeky chap that I am. My family and I wanted to give back, so we formed a Candlelighters fundraising team – Team FinCush.

“If I had to give some advice to someone who has cancer, it would be: don’t take life for granted; always look at the positives, and keep smiling, keep laughing.”

It’s your donations and support that help give young people like Finlay the support they need through a cancer diagnosis. Learn more about what Candlelighters do, and how you can make a difference for children. https://www.candlelighters.org.uk/howyoucanhelp/

Nalini Shares New Romantic Single “You Are My Forever” – A Danceable Celebration of Finding True Love

Artist: Nalini
Single: You Are My Forever
Release Date: 2025

South London-based artist Nalini introduces her debut single, “You Are My Forever,” a romantic and uplifting track that blends heartfelt storytelling with a feel-good, danceable energy.

Hailing from Croydon, Nalini draws inspiration from her Mauritian roots, particularly the vibrant rhythms of sega music—known for its infectious beats and joyful spirit. This influence shines through in the single, creating a sound that not only connects emotionally but also gets listeners moving.

“You Are My Forever” tells the story of finally finding the right person after a series of short-lived relationships. Having once lost hope in love, Nalini reflects on the doubts many people face—hearing that love doesn’t last and that passion eventually fades. However, the song captures the moment everything changes: meeting someone who treats you right and proves what true, lasting love is meant to be.

“This song is about that turning point,” Nalini explains. “When you stop believing in love because of past experiences, but then you meet someone who completely changes that and shows you what real love feels like.”

Alongside its romantic message, the track carries an uplifting energy designed to resonate both emotionally and physically, combining sincerity with a rhythm that encourages listeners to dance.

Beyond music, Nalini balances her creative journey with part-time work supporting children in an after-school club, bringing a grounded and genuine perspective to her artistry. Her values—centered on self-love, kindness, and acceptance—remain at the heart of her work.

Living with epilepsy, Nalini also represents resilience and determination, using her platform to inspire others to believe in themselves and their journey.

With a growing online presence and a passion for connecting through music and visual content, Nalini continues to establish herself as an artist to watch.

“You Are My Forever” marks a significant step forward, introducing a sound that is both emotionally honest and joyfully infectious.

Artist: Eivind Buene/ Trio Accanto
Album: Personal Best

Label: LAWO Classics
Release Date: 2026

Norwegian composer and vocalist Eivind Buene returns with Personal Best, a striking new release that blurs the boundaries between composition, performance, and personal narrative. Out now via LAWO Classics, the album brings together the internationally acclaimed Trio Accanto and SWR Experimentalstudio in a deeply reflective and innovative work that redefines contemporary classical music.

At the heart of Personal Best lies a unique concept: a six-part “trio portrait” that intertwines live performance with recorded conversations, offering an intimate look into the lives and artistic journeys of the ensemble’s members. Saxophonist Marcus Weiss, pianist Nicolas Hodges, and percussionist Christian Dierstein become both performers and subjects, as their voices and memories are transformed into sound through Buene’s compositional lens.

The result is a series of original sound collages—each rooted in personal storytelling yet seamlessly integrated into a rich musical landscape enhanced by live electronics. From meditative textures to raw, expressive passages, the work navigates themes of time, memory, and artistic identity, inviting listeners into what Buene describes as “telescopic listening”—a shifting perspective between past and present.

Alongside Personal Best, the album features Serious Songs, Buene’s reinterpretation of Johannes Brahms’ Four Serious Songs. Here, Buene steps into the role of singer, reimagining the Romantic tradition through a contemporary, almost singer-songwriter aesthetic. Sung in English and shaped by a fluid, improvisatory feel, these adaptations challenge classical conventions while embracing vulnerability and authenticity.

Buene’s work is rooted in what he calls “embodied history”—a practice that dissolves the line between performer and individual. Drawing inspiration from media archaeology and critical theory, he revisits musical traditions not as static forms, but as living, evolving narratives shaped by human experience.

Trio Accanto, known for its groundbreaking contributions to contemporary chamber music since its formation in 1994, brings decades of collaboration and innovation to the project. Their distinctive instrumentation—saxophone, piano, and percussion—combined with the cutting-edge expertise of SWR Experimentalstudio, creates a dynamic and immersive sonic environment.

Personal Best is more than an album—it is a reflection on artistic legacy, the passage of time, and the delicate balance between tradition and experimentation. With this release, Eivind Buene continues to push the boundaries of contemporary music, offering a deeply human and thought-provoking listening experience.
