Buchanan Galleries has joined forces with The White Company in a pioneering new partnership that’s not to be sniffed at.

Buchanan Galleries is diffusing the luxury brand’s signature ‘Winter’ fragrance – with warming notes of cinnamon, clove and orange – and the ‘Seychelles’ scent – which combines bergamot, orange and fresh coconut, with hints of jasmine, amber and vanilla – to enhance the guest experience.

It is the first partnership of its kind between shopping centres and The White Company, and is in direct response to feedback from shoppers which suggested that fragrances would help enhance their in-centre experience.

Working with ScentAir, the popular fragrances is being diffused during opening hours using special diffusers, focussing on a ‘scent of arrival’ at entranceways, as well as bathrooms and other key areas such as guest services.

Kathy Murdoch, Centre Director at Buchanan Galleries, said: “We want to create memorable moments each time our guests visit, and we are constantly exploring new ways to elevate their experience.

“For us, this means going beyond what people might expect for a shopping centre and bringing our places to life by stimulating the senses – from scents to sounds and tastes to textures.

“The White Company is well-known for its luxurious scents, which have traditionally been filling homes with signature fragrances for years. We want to recreate this welcoming ambiance across our retail destinations, so that guests feel welcomed from the moment they walk in.”

The new scent strategy is in response to feedback from guest surveys, which suggested that fragrances would improve their experience.

Activities to do with the kids the week before Christmas

With Christmas just around the corner, the week leading up to the big day can be full of excitement and anticipation for kids. To make the most of this festive season, here are some fun activities to do with the kids in the week before Christmas.

One fun activity to do with the kids is to decorate the house together. Get out the Christmas decorations and let the kids help you put up the tree, hang the lights, and display any other festive décor you have. You can also make some DIY decorations like paper snowflakes or popcorn garlands to add a personal touch to your home. This can be a great way to bond as a family and get into the holiday spirit.

Another great activity to do with the kids is to bake some Christmas treats. Whether it’s cookies, cupcakes, or gingerbread houses, baking together can be a fun and delicious way to spend time with the kids. You can let them help with measuring ingredients, mixing the batter, and decorating the finished treats. Plus, the house will smell amazing with all the holiday baking!

The week before Christmas is a magical time for kids, as they eagerly anticipate the arrival of Santa and the joy of the holiday season. To make the most of this special time, here is a list of activities that you can do with your children to create lasting memories and get into the festive spirit.

One fun activity to do with the kids the week before Christmas is to decorate the house together. Get out the Christmas decorations and let the kids help hang ornaments on the tree, string up lights, and set up holiday displays. You can also make homemade decorations like paper snowflakes or popcorn garlands. This is a great way to bond as a family and make your home feel festive and cozy for the holidays.

Another fun idea is to bake Christmas cookies with the kids. Baking is a fun and delicious way to spend time together, and getting creative with cookie decorating can be a blast. You can use festive cookie cutters to make shapes like snowflakes, reindeer, and Christmas trees, and then let the kids go wild with icing and sprinkles. Not only will you end up with delicious treats to enjoy, but you’ll also create cherished memories that you can look back on for years to come.

Throughout December, Buchanan Galleries and Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity are hosting a range of activities and initiatives in the shopping centre to help raise vital funds and provide essential support for children undergoing treatment in hospital and their families, whilst creating memorable festive experiences for guests.

The centre has introduced a Santa’s Grotto in collaboration with the charity. The Grotto, which is now open, offers families and children the chance to meet Santa Claus and his merry elves, share their festive wishes, capture a memorable photo, and receive a treat from Santa. Admission to the Grotto is free, with an optional opportunity to contribute to Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.

Adding to the festive cheer, the charity’s popular pop-up shop has returned, located in front of the Buchanan Galleries flower wall outside John Lewis & Partners. Visitors can browse a selection of unique Christmas cards and small gifts, whilst listening to the sound of local school choirs, hospital choir groups, and community ensembles, singing all the Christmas classics.

From Friday 13th December to Tuesday 24th December, shoppers can also take advantage of the charity’s own gift-wrapping service. For a suggested donation of £3, friendly volunteers will ensure presents are wrapped to perfection, saving time during the busy festive season.

The proceeds raised by Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity throughout the festive period will support the funding of life-saving treatment, ensuring that every baby, child and young person treated at Scotland’s largest children’s hospital receives the extra special care they deserve.

William McGowan, Head of Partnerships & Business Development at Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, said: “Once again, the Buchanan Galleries team have pulled out all the stops to bring the magic of Christmas to the centre whilst raising vital funds for children in hospital. Thanks to the exceptional generosity of visitors to the centre and with the help of hundreds of volunteers, we can ensure that our young patients and their families receive world-class care at the children’s hospital in Glasgow.”

Kathy Murdoch, Centre Director at Buchanan Galleries, added, “Christmas is a time to be spent with loved ones, but through our work with Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, we are reminded of those children who are undergoing treatment in hospital and may miss out on the festivities.

“As a shopping centre in the heart of Glasgow, we are immensely proud to be able to offer families and guests memorable experiences, such as our Santa’s Grotto, all whilst supporting such an important cause. We hope our guests will join us and embrace the season of giving this year and help make a difference for children and their families in Glasgow.”

Santa’s Grotto is open every weekend until Sunday 22nd December, as well as Monday 23rd December and Tuesday 24th December, giving every child in Glasgow the chance to share their last-minute Christmas wishes.

The Grotto’s opening hours are 11am – 5pm, except for Christmas Eve (December 24th) when the Grotto will be open from 10am – 1pm.

Offering more than 80 shops, Buchanan Galleries is the perfect destination to tick off the Christmas shopping list, including family favourites such as John Lewis & Partners, LEGO and Build-a-Bear Workshop.

The holiday season is a time for celebration, togetherness, and joy, but it can also bring stress, exhaustion, and even feelings of loneliness. Between the pressure to create a “perfect” Christmas, financial burdens, and managing family dynamics, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Prioritizing your mental health during this busy period is essential. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you navigate the season with calm and joy.

1. Set Realistic Expectations

The media and social platforms often portray an idealized version of Christmas, filled with flawless decorations, gourmet meals, and endless cheer. In reality, no holiday is perfect, and that’s okay. Focus on what matters most: spending quality time with loved ones and creating meaningful moments. Let go of the pressure to meet unrealistic standards and embrace the imperfections—they’re often what make the holidays memorable.

2. Stick to a Routine

The holidays can disrupt regular schedules with parties, late nights, and festive indulgences. While it’s good to enjoy these special moments, try to maintain a sense of normalcy. A consistent sleep schedule, regular meals, and even short bursts of exercise, like a brisk walk, can help you stay energized and balanced.

3. Manage Financial Stress

Gift-giving, parties, and holiday travel can strain your budget. To avoid financial stress:

Set a realistic budget and stick to it.

Opt for meaningful, low-cost gifts like handmade items or thoughtful gestures.

Remember, it’s the thought and effort that count, not the price tag.

4. Take Breaks When Needed

The festive season often means back-to-back events, from work parties to family gatherings. While socializing can be wonderful, it can also be exhausting. Allow yourself permission to say no or step away for some quiet time if you feel overwhelmed. Use these breaks to recharge by reading, meditating, or simply enjoying a peaceful moment to yourself.

5. Stay Connected

For some, Christmas can be a lonely time, especially if loved ones are far away. Combat loneliness by reaching out to friends and family through phone calls, video chats, or even letters. If you’re able, participate in local community events or volunteer activities to foster a sense of connection and purpose.

6. Practice Gratitude

The hustle and bustle of Christmas can make it easy to lose sight of what the season is truly about. Taking time to reflect on what you’re thankful for can shift your focus from stress to joy. Consider keeping a gratitude journal, writing down a few things each day that bring you happiness.

7. Be Mindful of Alcohol and Food

The holiday season is synonymous with indulgence, and while it’s important to treat yourself, moderation is key. Overindulging in food and alcohol can leave you feeling sluggish and negatively impact your mood. Balance festive treats with nutritious meals, and enjoy alcohol responsibly to maintain your well-being.

8. Set Boundaries

Between family obligations, work commitments, and social gatherings, it’s easy to feel stretched thin. Communicate your limits to avoid overcommitting. It’s okay to decline an invitation or delegate tasks if you’re feeling overwhelmed. Remember, self-care isn’t selfish; it’s necessary.

9. Focus on Giving Back

Helping others can be a powerful way to boost your mental health. Whether it’s volunteering at a local shelter, donating to charity, or simply helping a neighbor, acts of kindness can bring a sense of fulfillment and connection to the true spirit of Christmas.

10. Prioritize Your Mental Well-being

The holiday season can amplify existing mental health challenges. Practice mindfulness, meditation, or deep-breathing exercises to stay grounded. If you’re struggling, don’t hesitate to seek support from friends, family, or a mental health professional. Remember, asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Conclusion

Christmas is a time for joy, but it’s also a time to be kind to yourself. By setting realistic expectations, maintaining healthy habits, and prioritizing your mental well-being, you can navigate the festive season with balance and happiness. Remember, the true magic of Christmas lies in love, conn
