Rocketeer ownership available through co-curated RestoBuild vehicles, Rocketeer-built Turnkey vehicles and self-build kits, with options from 280hp to 375hp from the Rocketeer 3.0-litre V6 engine.

(Hampshire, UK. 7 May 2025). Rocketeer Cars, manufacturers of the hand-built Rocketeer MXV6 RestoBuild sports cars, has announced the successful conclusion of its recent funding round, bringing new Investors and Advisors into the business to enhance its product offering and scaling its market presence.

The investment demonstrates external validation of the company’s progress, with more than 30 Turnkey and RestoBuild vehicles delivered, and over 150 self-build kits supplied to date. The company’s new investors are automotive enthusiasts and owners of several supercars and classic cars who, like Rocketeer, recognise the appeal of an old school analogue sports car but that uses the latest technology and materials in today’s niche automotive marketplace.

Rocketeer and its MXV6 RestoBuild sports car is a reaction to today’s modern supercars that have become faster, but more anodyne to drive, and whose limits cannot be explored in normal driving conditions. The Rocketeer MXV6 delivers the purest driving experience and previously unseen levels of sports car engagement and enjoyment.

The Rocketeer MXV6 is designed and built in Hampshire, UK by automotive industry experts and is currently available for both Mk1 (NA) and Mk2 (NB) versions of the Mazda MX5, in EU and US (Miata) specification. In its standard state of tune, the Rocketeer MXV6 delivers 280hp and an addictive sonorous engine noise, while still retaining the cars’ original benchmark drivability and handling.

The new investment will fund the development and completion of two completely new RestoBuild offerings for the company, as well as expanding into new markets.

In mid-2025, the company will launch the new Rocketeer Keiryō – Japanese for Lightweight. One of Rocketeer’s most discerning clients set its Research and Development team the task to build the lightest and most powerful Rocketeer MXV6 ever created. The Rocketeer Keiryō is targeting 850kgs and 375hp to deliver 441hp per tonne – the same power to weight ratio as the legendary Ferrari F40 and recent supercars such as the Lamborghini Huracan V10 and McLaren 620R. The Rocketeer Keiryō opens up the company to a completely new demographic of enthusiast driver, and once the first car is delivered to its owner, follow on cars are already available to order, with more details and specifications to follow nearer to launch.

The investment also supports the conclusion of the Mk3 (NC) vehicle, which is in the late stages of engineering development and has already been tested on the dynameter to more than 300hp as standard. Deliveries of NC cars are expected to begin in mid-2025. Given the volume of existing Mk3 cars on the roads, NC is expected to account for a significant proportion of future builds.

With existing build partners in Germany, Netherlands and Australia, another important development for Rocketeer is the ability to deliver vehicles in the important US market. With substantial and increasing interest for Rocketeer in America, the investment allows the company to deliver Turnkey and RestoBuild cars to US-based clients.

Today, Rocketeer MXV6 ownership is available through three routes. At its pinnacle, Rocketeer co-curates’ hand-built, bespoke RestoMod vehicles for its clients that feature one-off exterior and interior colours and materials to create cars that are as unique as the owners themselves. Turnkey cars are also available, where the company’s technicians install the new 3.0-litre V6 Rocketeer developed engine. Both Turnkey and RestoBuild vehicles are adorned with Rocketeer badging, and feature on the official Rocketeer register of vehicles. An accessible and comprehensive self-build kit is also available for enthusiasts.

A sleek and stylish five-door hatchback, the Mazda6e is Mazda’s new BEV for the European market.

In a Mazda first, the car features a glowing signature wing with visual dynamic charging indicator.

Arriving in the UK in 2026, full pricing and specifications will be revealed later.

The all-new Mazda6e is the latest addition to Mazda’s fully electric lineup in Europe. A stylish electric hatchback with a fastback saloon style, the Mazda6e embodies a perfect balance between dynamic aesthetics and everyday practicality.

“The exterior is a true expression of its ‘Authentic Modern’ design philosophy,” explains Jo Stenuit, Director of Mazda’s European design studio in Oberursel, Germany. The vehicle’s sleek, coupé-inspired silhouette features a short rear deck, creating a sporty saloon-like appearance while maintaining the practicality of a five-door hatchback. It embodies harmony through contrast, balancing light and shadow, sharpness and roundness, to create a sense of dynamic motion even when stationary.

Mazda’s “Kodo – Soul of Motion” design language is brought to life through fluid surfaces and a low-slung profile, with parallel lines enhancing the car’s dynamic presence. This is further emphasised by the Aero-Fusiform shape—resembling a beautifully sculpted barrel, where all lines appear to converge at a single point. This seamless, flowing form reinforces the car’s aerodynamic elegance and sense of motion.

The sculpted door panels, inspired by the spray of a speedboat cutting through water, create a light-catching effect that further enhances the sense of movement. The rear end exudes power and stability, incorporating four distinct cylindrical taillight elements—a subtle homage to Mazda’s rich design heritage.

For the first time at Mazda, a glowing signature wing illuminates the Mazda6e’s front, featuring dynamic light animation as a visual charging indicator. The rear blends modern and classic design, with a horizontal line adding sleekness and width, while four cylindrical elements honour Mazda’s heritage.

Frameless doors and integrated handles enhance the seamless look, while an electrically extendable rear spoiler improves aerodynamics and stability at high speeds.

“The cabin of the Mazda6e is inspired by Japanese simplicity, built around the design principle of ‘ma’—the power of empty space,” says Jo Stenuit. “By intentionally creating emptiness, Mazda achieves a harmonious balance that enhances both aesthetics and functionality.”

A floating horizontal dashboard stretches across the cabin, creating a sense of openness and serenity, while the prominent centre console enhances driver focus and security. The interior design prioritises minimalism with depth, replacing excess buttons and screens with intuitive, thoughtful placement of controls.

The standard panoramic glass roof invites natural light into the cabin, reinforcing the expansive and airy feel. Tinted glass and heat insulation ensure comfort in all conditions. The sophisticated ambient lighting system, featuring 64 customisable colours, enhances the premium atmosphere with soft, indirect illumination.

The mono-form front seats, with their integrated headrests, deliver both modern elegance and exceptional comfort. Mazda offers a choice of high-quality upholstery: Beige or Black artificial leather in the Takumi trim, and luxurious Tan Nappa and Suede cloth woven fabric in the Takumi Plus trim. Subtle satin chrome accents and meticulous stitching complete the refined, sophisticated look.

The all-new Mazda6e is a masterclass in design, seamlessly blending form and function to create a vehicle that is as visually striking as it is practical. With its fluid exterior lines, cutting-edge lighting technology, and a minimalist yet luxurious interior, the Mazda6e represents the next chapter in Mazda’s design evolution.

Bridging tradition and innovation, the all-new Mazda6e marks a bold step into the electric future while staying true to the craftsmanship and aesthetic excellence that define the Mazda brand. Entering a new era, the Mazda6e is more than just a car—it is a statement of Mazda’s commitment to design, technology, and electrification.

Arriving in the UK in 2026, the Mazda6e is the next chapter in Mazda’s EV story in Europe.

Event held on the stunning Trac Mon Circuit was the first of its kind held on an unlit circuit at night.

Mazda MX-5s from the Mazda UK press and heritage fleet took part in a novel track driving event last weekend. Organised by Mission Motorsport – The Forces Motorsport Charity and Trac Mon Circuit in Anglesey, the MX-5s joined around 25 other cars to take part in the UK’s first ever non-competitive track driving event held on an unlit track in complete darkness.

This ‘night at the track’ event gave participants the chance to experience the unique sensations of driving on track at speed in darkness. Giving the drivers a glimpse of the sensations of a 24-hour race, the full 2.1-mile International Circuit was used on a crisp moonlit night that miraculously delivered a dry track in early January. With its precise handling balance, communicative chassis and engaging driver feedback, the Mazda MX-5 was the perfect car for this unique Friday night driving experience.

Using completely road standard MX-5s, the UK media drivers took the track alongside a mix of race cars, modified track cars and sports cars – and left enthralled by track driving at night. Commenting on the event, Mission Motorsport CEO, James Cameron, said: “this first of a kind event offered drivers the rare opportunity to experience night driving on an unlit circuit and develop their skills in no-light conditions that are normally reserved for those lucky enough to take part in a 24-Hour race or our Race of Remembrance here in Anglesey.”

On a day when Mission Motorsport also supported Trac Mon Anglesey Circuit in the signing of the Armed Forces Covenant – a public pledge to support the UK’s armed forces community, the Mazda MX-30 R-EV ‘poppy art car’ designed by Mission Motorsport also took to the track and assisted in plug-in hybrid safety training for the circuit marshals.

However, it was the experience of driving MX-5s at speed in darkness around the undulating and challenging Anglesey Circuit that left the biggest smile on the faces of the journalists who took part in this unique track driving experience.

Arriving in the UK in the first half of 2026, UK pricing and full specifications will be revealed later.

Mazda has revealed its new BEV for the European market today at the Brussels Motor Show. A stylish electric hatchback with a fastback saloon style, the Mazda6e will go on sale in left-hand drive European markets this year before arriving in UK dealers in the first half of 2026.

An all-new mid-sized electric car, the Mazda6e brings a fresh take to the well-regarded internal combustion engine powered Mazda6, which across three generations from 2002 to 2023 was a popular model with European and UK customers. The all-new Mazda6e represents a fresh take on its predecessors, featuring a modern flowing exterior, sleek cabin design and Mazda’s famed focus on the experience from behind the wheel.

Available with two powertrain options to allow for customers differing preferences, the Mazda6e is offered with a choice of 68.8kWh or 80kWh battery. The 68.8kWh version offers a range of up to 300miles and with 200kW DC charging it charges from 10 to 80 per cent in just 22 minutes, meaning a range of 145miles can be added in 15 minutes. The electric motor delivers 258ps for a 0-62mph performance of 7.6seconds.

For customers prioritising longer range usage the 80kWh version enables a range of up to 345miles and with 244ps reaches 62mph in 7.8secs. Both versions produce the same 320Nm of torque with a rear-wheel drive layout. The longer range 80kWh Mazda6e will charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 45 minutes and like the smaller battery version supports DC rapid charging.

Designed under the concept of ‘Electrifying Design Crafted to Perfection’ the Mazda6e introduces the next evolution of Mazda’s ‘Kodo Soul of Motion’ design philosophy. Its smooth flowing lines and bold features give the car a strong yet refined presence. The low roofline and short-deck coupe silhouette offer a sporty and stylish look while at the same time keeping the functionality of a five-door hatchback.

Standout design details include frameless doors, a bold lighting signature and integrated door handles – all of which create a seamless and modern appearance. At the front the new glowing signature wing lights around the grille to give a unique face to the Mazda6e. It features dynamic illumination which makes the wings appear to flutter when the car is charging, while the lighting also indicates charge status.

In profile, the parallel lines running down the sides emphasise the sleekness of the Mazda6e’s silhouette, while the light catching effect of the lower door shapes, is another example of how the surfacing of Kodo design uniquely creates the expression of movement. The Mazda6e’s 19-inch wheels have a range-boosting aerodynamic design that features a sporty five-spoke design with flat black surfaces.

At the rear the Mazda6e’s stylish rear lamp design and horizontal taillight bar ensure a light signature as distinctive as the front, while newly designed Mazda lettering replaces the brand logo badge at the rear of the car. Another unique for Mazda feature is the electronically extendable rear spoiler that’s both aesthetically pleasing and enhances stability at speed.

Inside, the Mazda6e’s cabin is flooded with natural light thanks to a panoramic roof that contributes to an airy ambiance and sense of space. Designed to deliver sophisticated simplicity, the spacious interior is inspired by the Japanese concept of ‘Ma’ which emphasises the beauty of space and the floating centre console and instrument panel enhance this sense of lightness. Premium materials feature throughout both the available trim levels: Takumi and Takumi Plus. Takumi models will feature beige or black artificial leather, while Takumi Plus offers premium tan Nappa leather.

Together, the exterior and interior elements create a cohesive blend of style, comfort and functionality. The smart driver-focused cockpit features a 14.6-inch touchscreen and a 10.2-inch instrument set, complemented by an augmented reality head-up display. Blending craftmanship, thoughtful design and cutting-edge technology the Mazda6e is the perfect car for the return of the Mazda6 as a BEV in the age of electrification, while a 330-litre boot, excellent passenger space and 70-litre front boot ensure strong practicality.

Commenting on the reveal of the all-new Mazda6e, Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director, Mazda Motors UK, said: “the Mazda6e is the car our dealers have been waiting for, with a nod to the popularity of the Mazda6 it’s a real statement of intent for the future and illustrates how Mazda can bring great design, technology and style to battery electric vehicles. And with the suspension, power steering and braking carefully calibrated by the team at Mazda Research Europe in Frankfurt to match European and UK preferences, I’m sure the Mazda6e will be an electric car that delivers the engaging driver experience you’d expect from Mazda”.

Adding, “In the UK we are facing some unique and complex challenges in the balance between EV legislation and consumer demand but at Mazda we will introduce new models and ensure our product range fits the pace of actual consumer demand in the UK with technologies that are amongst the best in the market. When it arrives in UK showrooms in 2026, the Mazda6e will be a fantastic and timely addition to our multi-solution approach that includes mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric offerings.

Arriving in the UK in 2026, the Mazda6e is the next chapter in Mazda’s EV story in Europe.

MX-30 R-EV is second Mazda Poppy Car – MX-5 Poppy Car ran in the 2015 Race of Remembrance.

The tenth Race of Remembrance takes place on 9th and 10th November at Anglesey Circuit.

The tenth running of the Race of Remembrance sees Mission Motorsport once again mark Remembrance Day with their now established and unique motorsport event held at Anglesey Circuit in North Wales. This year 57 teams will compete for 12 hours across two days with the respectful pause for reflection at 11.00am on Sunday when the cars head to the pitlane for a Service of Remembrance.

Mazda UK has been a supporter of Mission Motorsport since its founding in 2012 and of the Race of Remembrance since its inception a decade ago. In 2015, the Mk4 MX-5 poppy ‘art car’ took part in the race honouring the sacrifices made by service personnel and their families. This year Mazda is once again proud to collaborate with Mission Motorsport to create a second Mazda poppy ‘art car.’ Designed and implemented by the livery team at Mission Motorsport, this special Mazda e-Skyactiv MX-30 R-EV will lead the field as the course car at the 2024 Race of Remembrance.

With the race starting at 3pm on Saturday and running into darkness until 10pm, the cars and drivers are rested and repaired overnight before racing resumes at 9am on Sunday. Most importantly, the circuit falls silent at 11am on Sunday when more than 1,000 people will pay their respects, before resuming racing to the finish. Across the weekend, competitors, spectators and officials will not miss the poignant livery of the Mazda e-Skyactiv MX-30 R-EV course car.

Commenting on Mission Motorsport’s latest ‘art car’ creation and Mazda’s involvement in the Race of Remembrance, Mission Motorsport CEO, James Cameron, said: “we adore this project, back in 2015 we sought to combine art therapy with a motorsport build and were astonished at the end result – and to develop that theme this year our second Mazda art car has involved a group of injured servicemen and women to produce a design that reflects remembrance, but also new life, energy and hope.”
Adding, “this MX-30 R-EV will be in use across the country in support of the Armed Forces Community and will have a particularly poignant role as the course car at the centre of the 10th running of the Race of Remembrance at Anglesey Race Track this weekend”.

The Mazda MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV and its rotary generator provide a unique series plug-in hybrid that offers new ways of using a car as a battery electric vehicle. The R-EV has a 17.8KWh battery and a 53-mile pure electric range, while using Mazda’s unique rotary engine technology, the all-new 830cc single-rotor petrol engine acts as a generator to enable longer distance drives without range or charging anxiety. With no mechanical connection between the engine and the wheels, the rotary unit simply acts as a generator, ensuring the MX-30 R-EV always drives via the electric motor to deliver a seamless EV driving experience.

Commenting on the reveal of the Mazda MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV poppy ‘art car’, Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director, Mazda Motors UK, said: “the poignant and stunning livery of this Mission Motorsport poppy car is a sobering reminder of the sacrifices and bravery of our service personal and their families. I’m delighted that once again Mazda can play a small part in assisting Mission Motorsport to honour this with the Race of Remembrance and their fantastic ongoing work with service veterans” Adding, “it will be great to see the Mazda MX-30 R-EV on track as the course car at this unique motorsport event.”

Taking place in aid of Mission Motorsport and their work to provide respite, rehabilitation, vocational training and support to veterans, the 10th running of the Race of Remembrance takes place this weekend at Anglesey racetrack in North Wales.

Arriving in the UK in March, the 2024 Mazda MX-5 features design enhancements inside and out.

With an unchanged engine line-up across Prime-Line, Exclusive-Line and Homura model grades.

Updated features include a new Asymmetric Limited Slip Differential for 2.0-litre models.

Arriving in the UK next month, the 2024 Mazda MX-5 sees Mazda’s award-winning sports car receive an exterior design change for the first time since the launch of the current generation MX-5 in 2015. The subtle changes include a new LED headlight design that now incorporates the daytime running lights, while the rear LED lights have also been redesigned. A new Aero Grey paint colour has been added to the MX-5 line-up, as well.

The eight-model range features four Roadster and four RF models with a choice of Prime-Line, Exclusive-Line and Homura trim grades. Prime-Line cars are powered by the 132ps 1.5-litre Skyactiv-G engine, while Exclusive-Line can be chosen with either the 1.5-litre or the 184ps 2.0-litre Skyactiv-G engine. The range-topping Homura is exclusively matched to the 184ps unit. Prices for the 2024 Mazda MX-5 range start at £28,000 for the 1.5-litre Prime-Line Roadster.

As before 2.0-litre cars feature a front strut brace, limited slip differential and Bilstein dampers as standard. The 2024 MX-5 features a new Asymmetric Limited Slip Differential – a cam mechanism has been added to the conical clutch, which is lightweight, compact and highly durable. The cam angle is set differently for the deceleration and acceleration side, thereby achieving optimal limiting force of slip during both actions. Strengthening the slip limiting force when the unloaded rear wheel is lightened during cornering enhances stability, moreover tuning the slip limiting force and optimising the set up for the MX-5’s engine, suspension and tyre characteristics ensures the purity of handling balance the MX-5 is famed for.

Drivers will also notice upgrades to the cabin of the MX-5, as inside there’s a new larger central 8.8-inch touch-screen multimedia display and an updated instrument panel. The larger central screen allows for clearer navigation mapping, while the more advanced MZ Connect system helps user functionality, additionally USB-C ports have been introduced. However, as you would expect, the 2024 Mazda MX-5 retains the same driver focused cabin and driving position, while the range-topping Homura grade now features Recaro seats trimmed in leather and Alcantara.

Over more than three decades and across four generations, the Mazda MX-5 has always been the benchmark pure lightweight sports car with driver engagement at the centre of its appeal. This Jinba Ittai philosophy – of driver and machine working in perfect harmony – is at the heart of every Mazda, none more so than the Mazda MX-5. The 2024 Mazda MX-5 continues to deliver pure open-top driving pleasure while retaining its core values of agility, lightweight and finely balanced handling.

On Exclusive-Line and Homura models, the new Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) track driving mode avoids intervention until a later parameter to deliver a more dynamic, yet secure, drive experience with first-time track drivers in mind. Continuing the MX-5’s fine-tuning, the response of the accelerator has been improved to deliver a more accurate throttle application, while the electric power steering has been adjusted and steering rack friction reduced to deliver an even more natural and fluid response. The aim was to further enhance the sense of oneness with the car and connection with the road that the MX-5 has always been famed for.

Last week marked 35 years since the first-generation Mazda MX-5 was revealed at the 1989 Chicago Motor Show and to date 1,256,745 MX-5s have been produced at Mazda’s Ujina plant in Hiroshima. With over 135,000 of these being sold in the UK, the place the MX-5 holds in the hearts of UK sports car fans is clear.

Arriving in the UK in March, the 2024 Mazda MX-5 continues the winning formula that has seen more than 25,000 fourth-generation MX-5s sold in the UK since its launch in 2015. Commenting on the 2024 Mazda MX-5, Mazda UK Managing Director Jeremy Thomson said, “when it comes to driver engagement, the current generation MX-5 has established itself as a benchmark sports car, and with the 2024 Mazda MX-5 we continue to offer one of the most exciting and satisfying to drive cars money can buy.”

Adding, “Our engineers created a sports car that incorporates our ground-breaking Skyactiv technology, modern safety and superb efficiency with the driver focused enjoyment for which the MX-5 is loved. The MX-5 is Mazda’s brand icon and it embodies all that is great about our products. Mazda’s unceasing commitment to refining the vehicle over its 30-year history is highlighted again with the subtle but focused updates to the 2024 MX-5, which ensure this car continues to be an affordable, engaging, world-class sports car”.

In the UK the recently updated 2024 Mazda3 line-up features 15 hatchbacks and 3 saloon models.

The Mazda3 has reached the milestone of two decades on sale – revealed at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show, the first-generation Mazda3 arrived in European dealerships in the autumn of 2003. The Mazda3 built on the success of the Mazda 323, which across four generations had been Mazda’s flagship family hatchback in the European market, as well as proving to be a huge sales success both at home in Japan, (where it was called the Familia) and around the globe.

A strong clue to the future Mazda3 came at the Geneva Motor Show in the spring of 2003 when Mazda showed the MX Sportif concept car, which unapologetically showed off the style of Mazda’s next generation of family hatchback. The design was led by chief designer Hideki Suzuki and involved collaboration between Mazda’s design centres in California, Germany and Japan.

When the final production car, designed by Hasip Girgin, was revealed at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show it stayed true to the concept car’s look inside and out. The Mazda3 came with a choice of hatchback and saloon body styles – named the Axela in Japan – it went on sale in its home market in October. UK sales starting in late 2003 and it quickly won praise for being an affordable, fun-to-drive and well-built contender in a super competitive segment of the European market.

Available with 1.4, 1.6 and 2.0-litre MZR petrol engines, plus two outputs of MZ-CD diesel engine, the new Mazda3 shared its ‘C1’ platform with the popular Mazda5 MPV and by 2005 annual sales in the UK had passed 15,000 cars. At the 2006 Geneva Motor Show, the Mazda3 MPS hot hatch made its debut, and it joined the line-up in October. Powered by a 260ps 2.3-litre turbocharged MZR engine it was one of the most powerful front-wheel drive hot hatches in the world at the time of its launch and came with a limited-slip differential, 18-inch wheels and unique styling. Across all models in the range a total of 67,731 first-generation Mazda3s were sold in the UK.

The second-generation Mazda3 Saloon was revealed in November 2008 at the Los Angeles Auto Show with the Hatchback shown a few weeks later at the Bologna Motor Show. While it retained the same ‘C1’ architecture it featured a completely new body and a more modern look. Longer and wider, yet lighter, than the first-generation it came with an all-new 2.2-litre diesel engine, alongside familiar but updated petrol engines. European cars saw the introduction of stop-start for the first time to improve fuel economy and lower emissions.

After the success of the first-generation, the MPS model returned with upgrades to its suspension, brakes, engine and gearbox to ensure it stayed a competitive hot hatch choice. With a large bonnet air scoop, 18-inch wheels with a similar design to the RX-8 sportscar and a larger rear spoiler it had the looks to match its performance. Across the lifespan of the second-generation Mazda3 it received a series of updates and a total of 36,254 were sold in the UK.

Introduced in 2013, the third-generation Mazda3 saw a big step forward, it featured an all-new exclusively Mazda Skyactiv Technology platform and architecture. This generation Mazda3 was also the first to adopt Mazda’s Kodo design philosophy, the third model to do so after the Mazda CX-5 and Mazda6. It also saw the introduction of Skyactiv G petrol and Skyactiv D diesel engines, and despite being bigger than the outgoing model, it was once again lighter than its predecessor.

With a longer wheelbase but shorter front and rear overhangs than the previous model, and helped by its dynamic Kodo design, this generation was a sportiest looking Mazda3 to date, which went someway to offsetting the fact that the MPS model did not carry over to the third-generation. With the hot hatch market shrinking in Europe, the third-generation Mazda3 focused on a move upmarket with the four-door body style moving towards the small premium saloon market. Offered in nice exterior colours it was the first Mazda3 to feature Mazda’s signature Soul Red paint.

To highlight the reliability of the third-generation Mazda3 a group of cars were driven from the factory in Hiroshima to Frankfurt for the Motor Show, having crossed the Sea of Japan, they then drove 15,000km from Vladivostok to Germany traversing Russia, Belarus and Poland driven by motoring journalists, repeating a feat first completed with the original Mazda 323 in 1977. A big sales success in the UK, from 2013 to 2019 49,503 third-generation Mazda3s found homes in the UK.

In common with the first two generations of Mazda3, the third-generation Mazda3 was also a global success story for Mazda with production and assembly in Mexico, Thailand, China, Malaysia and Vietnam, in addition to production at Hofu plant in Japan. Well received by media and customers, the Mazda3 made it to the shortlist for European Car of the Year in 2014, however it was the fourth-generation car that claimed the coveted World Car Design of the Year accolade in the 2020 World Car of the Year Awards.

Based on the stunning Mazda Kai concept car, the fourth-generation Mazda3 was unveiled at 2018 Los Angeles Motor Show, and staying very close to the looks of the 2017 concept car, it took Kodo design to the next level, setting new standards of athletic and artistic aesthetics for a family hatchback, while thanks to completely unique body panels, the Mazda3 saloon moved ever further into the realm of rivaling compact premium saloon rivals.

The fourth and current generation Mazda3 saw the debut of Mazda’s groundbreaking Skyactiv-X Spark Controlled Compression Ignition (SPCCI) petrol engine technology, now updated to e-Skyactiv X it sits alongside the e-Skyactiv G engine in the line-up, both of which feature Mazda M Hybrid 24V mild-hybrid systems. Since the launch of the current generation of Mazda3, 17,847 have been sold in the UK, bringing the cumulative UK sales total for Mazda3 to 171,335 cars.

However, to bring even bigger perspective to the significant role the Mazda3 has played in shaping Mazda’s brand image and commercial success over the last 20 years, it has reached global sales of over six-million units and has been one of Mazda’s best-selling models over the last two decades.

Commenting on the Mazda3’s 20th anniversary, Mazda Motors UK, Managing Director, Jeremy Thomson, said: “the Mazda3 has been a mainstay of our sales success and customer retention for nearly all of my time at Mazda UK, it’s combination of quality, style and driver engagement has always made it stand out in a very competitive sector. While the growing popularity of SUVs has changed our sales mix over the years, the popularity of the Mazda3 with our customers and dealers remains strong, highlighting what an important car it is in our line-up”.

Adding, “the SPCCI technology found in the e-Skyactiv X engine is part of our multi-solution approach to powertrains and sustainability. With its connectivity and interior screen upgrades, the 2024 Mazda3 continues to be one of the best looking, highest quality and most generously equipped hatchbacks in the market, while the stylish Mazda3 Saloon is a competitor in the compact executive saloon market. With five new model grades, there remains a lot choice across the range for customers to get the Mazda3 they want.”

Mazda Motor Corporation has announced that total production volume of Mazda rotary engine vehicles has surpassed two million units.

The first vehicle Mazda equipped with a rotary engine was the Mazda Cosmo Sport (Mazda 110S), introduced in 1967. From there, Mazda continued to refine the performance of their rotary engines improving output, fuel economy, and durability, and maintaining their position as the only automaker mass-producing rotary engines for many years.

In June this year, Mazda resumed production of rotary engine vehicles for the first time in eleven years after having ended production of the Mazda RX-8 in 2012.

Commenting on reaching the 2 million rotary engine production mark, Takeshi Mukai, Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer at Mazda, said: “the rotary engine is a special part of Mazda history and represents our ‘never-stop challenging spirit.’ The rotary engine is much loved by customers around the world, and we are excited to resume production and see it make a comeback. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone who has supported us on this journey—in particular, the many customers who have purchased rotary engine vehicles, our rotary engine fans, and all our business partners who were involved in development and production. Moving forward, we will continue to pass on this ‘never-stop challenging spirit,’ offering attractive vehicles that provide our customers with an exciting driving experience even in the age of electrification.”

Tokyo / Leverkusen, 25 October 2023. The love of driving is in the DNA of every designer and engineer at Mazda, and their passion is most visible in the world’s best-selling roadster, the Mazda MX-5.

At the Japan Mobility Show1, alongside the premiere of the updated 2024 MX-5, Mazda unveiled the MAZDA ICONIC SP, a concept car that marries together a dual rotary power train with an EV platform, a powertrain approach most recently launched in the all-new Mazda MX-30 R-EV.

The MAZDA ICONIC SP is a compact sports car concept designed to adapt to a new era and shows the company’s continued commitment to the creation of products that satisfy customers‘ love of driving and cars.

The concept achieves a low centre of gravity to deliver excellent driving performance. Its unique proportions are made possible by a low bonnet, achieved by mounting the lightweight and compact rotary engine in the centre of the car.

The idea of a two-rotor rotary EV system would deliver a highly scalable engine with a flexible layout and the ability to burn a variety of fuels, including hydrogen, making it a Mazda-unique technology that is ideal for sports car packages. And if the battery is charged with electricity derived from renewable energy, it is possible to drive in a virtually carbon-neutral state.

Unveiling the concept, Mazda President and CEO, Masahiro Moro said:
“We love the MX-5, and the world loves the MX-5. We are determined in the age of electrification to keep the joy of driving which the MX-5 represents alive, and the MAZDA ICONIC SP, with its dual rotary power generator EV powertrain is our dream solution. A dream we will work hard to launch. Mazda will always deliver vehicles that remind people that cars are pure joy and an indispensable part of their lives.”

Along with the MAZDA ICONIC SP, several versions of Mazda’s brand icon are on display on the Mazda stand, including the latest MX-5 – a significant upgrade of the fourth-generation model with new LED headlights and rear lights, along with changes to the interior to further enhance the driving experience.

Also, the stand has a first-generation MX-5 – an enduring symbol of Mazda’s commitment to the joy of driving, as well as a two-thirds scale model MX-5 to provide a simulated driving experience for children, and an MX-5 that can be controlled using only the driver’s hands.

The Mazda UK Heritage Fleet features 15 key cars from the firm’s history aged from 1968 to 2021.

All cars will now be first fuelled with sustainable fuel for all events, drives and media bookings.

SUSTAIN Classic is the UK’s first publicly available sustainable petrol, designed for classic vehicles.

Mazda UK is switching its Heritage Fleet to run on sustainable petrol. Highlighting the role sustainable fuel can play in de-carbonising classic cars – the 15-car Mazda UK Heritage Fleet will be filled with SUSTAIN Classic Super 80 supplied by Coryton, each time the cars are driven or loaned to media. Further highlighting the flexibility of this drop-in sustainability solution – none of the cars required modification to run on the petrol, which can be used by any standard petrol-fuelled vehicle.

Developed by UK firm Coryton, Super 80 is one of three fuels in the recently launched SUSTAIN Classic range. Super 80 is a second generation bio-fuel created using 80% agricultural waste, such as straw, by-products and waste from crops which wouldn’t be used for animal or human consumption. The fuel offers a reduction of at least 65% in greenhouse gas emissions when compared to fossil fuels.

With a 98-octane rating and bio-ethanol content of 1%, SUSTAIN Classic has been technically tailored for classic vehicles. It’s also formulated with a premium additive package included, which stabilises and extends the life of the fuel and helps clean and protect the engines.

In November 2022 Mazda drove a 2.0-litre MX-5 for 1,000-miles around the UK, lapping a circuit in each home nation all powered by sustainable fuel from Coryton – underlining the potential sustainable fuels have for decarbonising motorsport and the many millions of combustion engine cars that will remain on our roads for decades to come. The switch to fuel the heritage fleet in the same way further highlights how sustainable fuel is a real and credible player in efforts towards net zero, while at the same time allowing the continued enjoyment and preservation of classic vehicles.

David Richardson, Director at Coryton, said: “We’re delighted that Mazda has decided to place its trust in SUSTAIN Classic to fuel its important fleet of heritage vehicles. We believe that SUSTAIN Classic is the world’s first ever publicly available sustainable fuel catering for classic vehicles and we hope that these fuels will give classic car owners confidence that there are options for them to continue running their vehicles in a sustainable way in the years to come.”

Adding, “now is a vital time to start proving that sustainable fuels can have a real future fuelling our transportation – past and present. While other technologies are given the necessary time to develop, sustainable fuels are here and ready to go to help tackle emissions from the existing fleet of classic and modern cars on our roads – and can be scaled up relatively quickly if needed. Every kilogram of CO2 we avoid adding to our atmosphere, by replacing fossil fuel with sustainable fuel, is a win. We don’t instantly have to go for the full switch to start making a genuine impact. As more feedstocks become available, these fuels will start to contain even higher levels of traceable sustainable elements.”

The Mazda UK Heritage Fleet features 15 cars with engines ranging from rotary to both four and six-cylinder petrol, all of which will now be running on Coryton’s sustainable fuel when they leave storage to head to events or media bookings.

Commenting on the switch to SUSTAIN Classic by Coryton, Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director, Mazda Motors UK, said: “our heritage fleet highlights Mazda’s long tradition of engineering ingenuity and stand out design. Mazda’s ‘never stop challenging’ approach can be seen throughout our heritage, so it’s great that we can highlight the potential sustainable fuels can play in the future as part of a multi-solution approach to CO2 reduction. While our new car range will feature ever more electrification as part of this multi-solution approach, using a sustainable petrol in our heritage cars is a great way to highlight the role these fuels can have in reducing the environmental impact of the combustion engine cars that will remain on our roads for decades to come.”

Adding, “it’s especially appropriate to highlight how these fuels have the potential to make the enjoyment of driving sustainable. Throughout Mazda’s history we have produced cars that have the connection between car and driver at the heart of their appeal. That’s particularly true of cars like the Mazda RX-7 and all the Mazda MX-5 generations, which has been providing driving fun for over 30 years. So our switch to power these cars sustainably is an example how owners can enjoy their classics guilt-free as these fuels became more widely available”.

Mazda UK’s 1973 Mazda RX-3 was demonstrated at last week’s Flywheel Festival at Bicester Motion, where it ran powered exclusively by Coryton’s Super 80 SUSTAIN Classic petrol.
