Aberdeen FC are looking to add to their squad this summer. The Scottish Premier League team finished fourth last season, but they will be hoping to challenge the likes of Celtic and Rangers this time around. The Dons have been busy in the transfer market already, but they are not finished yet. Here are some of the targets they are reportedly interested in:
Scott Wright
Aberdeen have already signed Scott Wright, in what was a surprise move. The winger was out of contract in the summer, and Rangers had been heavily linked with him. However, the Dons swooped in and secured his signature on a pre-contract. Wright is a versatile player who can operate on either wing, or in a more central role. He has good pace and trickery, and knows where the goal is too. Wright came through the youth system at Aberdeen, so he knows the club well. The 23-year-old will be a useful addition to the squad, as he can create chances and score goals.
Christian Ramirez
Christian Ramirez is a striker who currently plays for Houston Dynamo in the MLS. The 30-year-old American has been in fine form this season, scoring 6 goals and registering 2 assists in 11 games. Ramirez started his career in the lower leagues in the USA, before moving up to Minnesota United in 2014. He played for Los Angeles FC and Houston in the MLS, before joining Aberdeen on loan in January 2021. Ramirez made 8 appearances for the Dons, scoring 1 goal. He impressed enough to earn a permanent move, according to reports. Ramirez is a strong and powerful striker, who is good in the air and has a good shot on him. He will provide competition for Sam Cosgrove and Bruce Anderson, who are the current options up front at Pittodrie.
Liam Kelly
Liam Kelly is a goalkeeper who currently plays for Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership. The 25-year-old came through the youth system at Rangers, but he never made a first team appearance for the club. He joined Livingston in 2015, and helped them win promotion to the top flight. Kelly then had a spell at QPR in the English Championship, before returning to Scotland with Motherwell. Kelly is a reliable shot-stopper, and he is good at dealing with crosses too. He would provide strong competition for Joe Lewis, who is Aberdeen’s current number one. Reports suggest that the Dons are in talks with Motherwell over a potential transfer.
Overall, it looks like Aberdeen are targeting players who can add quality and depth to the squad. Scott Wright is a promising young talent who knows the club well, while Christian Ramirez is a proven goalscorer who has settled in quickly. Liam Kelly would provide competition for Joe Lewis, which can only be a good thing for Aberdeen. It will be interesting to see who else the Dons add to their squad before the transfer window closes on 31 August.
