Registered UK Charity, Bluevale Community Club has been awarded a £1,000 grant from Buchanan Galleries via its Landsec Futures Community Grants programme.

Bluevale Community Club is a community anchor organisation in the East End of Glasgow, that operates two community centres as well as a multi-purpose gym facility in the Haghill area, intending to improve social cohesion, mental and physical health, and provide community-based recovery in the second-most disadvantaged area in Scotland*.

The £1,000 grant will help fund various recreational activities led by Bluevale Community Club and their committed team of volunteers to further serve multiple disadvantaged groups and vulnerable members of the community with regular sports clubs, dance classes, social support groups and kids clubs based at the newly opened Reidvale Neighbourhood Centre in Haghill.

The initiative is funded by Buchanan Galleries’ owner, Landsec, via its social impact programme, Landsec Futures, a £20m fund which aims to bring more value to the communities where Landsec invests. The scheme is designed to empower local initiatives that contribute significantly to the wellbeing and development of the community and create positive change in the area.

Kenny Trainer, Project Manager at Bluevale Community Club said, “It has been fantastic that our club has received this support from Buchanan Galleries.  As a local charity working out of the East end of Glasgow donations like this help our club provide much needed community activities and support.

“It was a privilege to take some of the staff around our facility and show them first-hand how much this donation will make a difference to those who need it most. I would like to thank the team at Buchanan Galleries for their support.”

On a visit to the new Reidvale Neighbourhood Centre to hand over the cheque, Kathy Murdoch, Centre Manager at Buchanan Galleries said, “We’re incredibly proud to be able to support local organisations such as Bluevale Community Club, who embody the spirit of community engagement and aims to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals in the area.

“Through this initiative, we aim to foster a stronger, more connected community and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it the most in Glasgow.

“I was honoured to visit the Reidvale Neighbourhood Centre and see the brilliant facilities available to the people in this neighbourhood. It was a joy to meet the dedicated volunteers who help run the charity’s daily activities and events, as well as some children who benefit from attending properly funded clubs and group activities.”

Through the Landsec Futures scheme, unrestricted grants of up to £3,000 are available to support charities and organisations that address pressing social issues, promote community development and improve the lives of residents in Glasgow.

Murdoch added, “Applications are now open for the next quarter, and we urge Glasgow-based charities that are leading on positive change in the area to apply for funding ahead of the deadline on 19th February, so that they can also increase their funding and continue making a huge impact on our community.”

Four funding rounds are available each year as part of the Landsec Futures Community Grants Programme to support local voluntary groups and not-for-profit organisations in the community which are already creating value in the places they know best.

Applications are open for the Landsec Futures Community Grants scheme until February 19, 2024 at 5:30pm with grants anticipated to be made by the end of April, 2024. To apply and for more details, visit: https://landsec.com/futures.
