Many fans and aspiring young footballers across the country are still feeling the buzz after this summer’s UEFA WOMEN’S EURO 2022™ tournament, where the Lionesses made history to claim their first title and send the nation into a new kind of football frenzy.

Acting as the tournament’s Official Mobility Partner, Volkswagen debuted Tiny Buzz – a remote-controlled electric miniature ID. Buzz – ahead of the opening game before carrying the match ball to the centre spot at Wembley, for the tournament’s first match and kickstarting the final playoff between England and Germany.

Based on the manufacturer’s new and innovative ID. Buzz – the first fully-electric vehicle in Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ range – Tiny Buzz’s on-pitch appearances were greeted with excitement by the fans, generating a flurry of social media activity as people reacted to the iconic debut.

With the support of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Tiny Buzz recently made an appearance at grassroots girls football matches and practices across London, delivering the match balls and providing ongoing entertainment alongside Girls United.

Recognising Tiny Buzz from its debut, the girls’ excitement was evident as they reveled in the opportunity to meet Tiny in person. It was also a very special moment for the parents as they watched on, with the parallels between the appearance at the Women’s EUROs and grassroots football serving as a reminder of what can be achieved in the sport.

Since the Lionesses’ game-changing victory, over 400,000 new opportunities have been created in England to engage girls and women in grassroots football activities, revealing the positive impact and historic legacy of the tournament.*

Kate Thompson, Head of Marketing at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said: “It was a joy to take Tiny Buzz to multiple training sessions and match days to meet the girls who are playing at a grassroots level. In doing this, we hope to inspire the future generation of female players with the engagement of football, showcasing that they can achieve anything, on and off the pitch.”

Girls United is an international organisation that champions girls’ football at grassroots level, facilitating training sessions and matches as part of a push to increase the sport’s diversity and visibility.

London Manager, Abigail Ingram said: “We all loved the Tiny Buzz visits, players and coaches alike. It’s always special when a bit of magic from the elite level of football makes its way to the grassroots. A lot of our players saw Tiny Buzz at the EUROs in the summer, which was a huge moment for everyone involved in the women’s game. Moments like this help to build on the Lionesses’ legacy and encourage our players to continue to dream big.”
