Do you feel entirely in charge of your life? How far have you come from where you started? Those are the questions São Paulo artist Child of SP explores on his single Out The Mud. Being based between Portugal and Scotland where he creates a lot of his music and counts as his second home, Child of SP is truly a new talent crossing over from R’n’B to slowjamz. He has always confronted life head on whether it be battling life threatening illness to overcoming cultural barriers , he has never let anything stand in his way.

The artist’s soft vocals blur the lines between hip-hop and RnB on this introspective track. Laid back subdued beats lay the foundation for the single’s bigger topics. Child of SP looks back on how his life has changed from its humble beginnings – the success that’s come and the fake ghosts of his past now looking to get in on it.

Accompanying the song is a stunning 3D-rendered animated music video in stylised photorealism. In it Child of SP, as a doll, is brought to life with the everyday insecurities that weigh us all down. A disembodied hand of a higher being removes these insecurities, transforming him into his signature look he adorns today.

Though Child of SP is still building his audiences worldwide, he has been smashing records in his native Brazil. He is the first Brazilian artist to perform in English exclusively to be signed to a major label deal. Audiences may also recognise him from his opening performances for Tyga and Akon. For Child of SP, whose first album purchase was Konvicted by Akon, the opportunity was a full circle moment that shows that sticking to your dreams really can pay off.

But it is the way he has made Scotland so much of a second home having encountered so much adversity which is perhaps his biggest cause for contentment as his career grows , and how best to sum things up but in his own words –

“Scotland was and has been an amazing surprise. I’m not gonna lie i was very insecure at times about coming back and just dropping somethin’ a year and a half after my last track. I didn’t think anybody would care. But i believe music finds it’s listeners and to have a place like Scotland behind me, all the DM’s i got while i was there, all the love…that healed me from times i felt unloved and cast out in Lisbon.”

“I appreciate all the love from all of the Scottish people that are behind me, all of the relationships that i’ve built and continue to build out there…it inspires me, it makes me a better person, and shows me that family is not in blood, but in understanding and sharing of a cause.”

“there’s no place like Scotland.”
